Going digital is the near future in the publishing industry

Are you a children’s book publisher? Do you have difficulties to generate more sales? Are you open minded and willing to keep up with the new digital trends? Well, if you answered “yes” for all the previous questions, our team might bring you closer to an alternative.

Apparently, the rise of technology has strongly affected our life. Not a single hour passes by, when we would not intend to touch any of our electronic gadgets. Did you actually know for instance, that we touch our mobile phone 200 times a day? Just think about how frequently you search for your laptop, smartphone or tablet. The time, adults spend on using these devices is increasing. However, this is only one side of the coin. The next generation is growing up in the digital age, thus their habits are changing even more dramatically. Compared to the ancestors, kids consume more and more digital content especially on mobile platforms. Nowadays, it is common to see children at the age of two using a tablet or smartphone without any help. No doubt, digital is overtaking traditional media, at all levels and generations rise faster than the market accommodates itself to these evolving processes.

Kids consume more and more digital content, especially on smart devices.

At the same time, the prospects of children’s books publishers are promising. According to a Nielsen survey, children’s books sales are up 12.6% in U.S., 28% in Brazil and 10% in China, with 11 of the 20 bestselling books in the U.S. being children’s titles. However, several studies indicate a huge shift related to people’s content consumption habits, which has to be taken into account by the publishers, as well. The number of mobile users is above 2000 million worldwide in 2015, and is constantly growing. Moreover, an average household owns 7.4 internet devices, with four out of 10 households bought a tablet in the last year. Interestingly, 90% of time on mobile is spent in applications. Based on another study, youngsters have higher levels of mobile devices ownership, compared to elder. As a consequence, digitalization is not remarkable anymore, but essential in our everyday life. None of us is going online today, but we’re living online. Hence, in order to stay competitive, publishers also need to overthink their strategy and adjust to the current situation.

of time is spent in mobile applications
